- Oncoplastic Reconstruction
This young patient was diagnosed with breast cancer of the upper inner quadrant of the left breast. Her tumor was moderately sized and she had a sizable breast. She opted for treatment with breast conservation. Rather than lumpectomy alone, which can leave contour deformities after radiation, she chose oncoplastic reduction to re-shape the breast mound prior to radiation therapy. Once her lumpectomy margins were clear of disease, Dr. Zampell re-arranged the breast tissue, recruiting outer breast parenchyma to fill the lumpectomy defect. This operation is performed similarly to a breast reduction. The right breast was reduced for symmetry. She will undergo radiation to the left breast to complete her breast cancer therapy.
